Carolina Scaraffuni Gomes: How non biodegradable leather waste may be converted into biogas by using plastic processing machine

Carolina Scaraffuni Gomes presents a pretreatment process enhance the biodegradability of leather.

Leather goods are noble and sustainable but leather production bears a high potential for pollution. Chromed leather production wastes are disposed in landfill sites worldwide on a worrying scale leading to long lasting environmental problems. We developed a pretreatment process by the use of extruders to enhance the leather’s biodegradability. Then it can be converted into biogas with high yield.
