Zehntausende Gläubige jubeln Papst Leo XIV. auf dem Petersplatz bei seinem Amtsantritt zu. Auch Regierungschefs, Vertreter der Königshäuser und anderer Kirchen waren dabei.

Mit einer feierlichen Messe vor rund 100.000 Menschen auf dem Petersplatz in Rom wird Papst Leo XIV. offiziell ins Amt eingeführt.

Mit der Messe bekommt der US-Amerikaner Robert Francis Prevost nun auch alle Insignien seines Amtes. Nach einem Gebet am Grab des Apostels Petrus im Petersdom erhält er den traditionellen Fischerring und das Pallium, eine Art Schal.
